Black Belt Requirement
1. SUGGESTED MINIMUM KATA, AGES AND YEARS OF TRAINING FOR BLACK BELT GRADING.
1st Degree Black belt: Shodan- 12 to 18 years old with at least 5 years steady practice and improvement. Adult Over 18 years old at least 3 years with preference to 4 years (trained as adult at least 2 of the 4 years).
Kata: 5 pinans; Jion: Matsukazi; Jiin; Annanku; Seienchin; Basai Dai; Sanchin.
2nd Degree Black belt: Nidan- 16 to 18 years old with at least 7 years steady practice. Adult Over 18 with at least 6 years steady practice and improvement.
Kata: Shihokosukun; Kurumfa; Tomari No Basai; Seipai.
3rd Degree Black belt: Sandan-Over 23 only, if trained at least 10 years.
Kata: Shisochin; Kosukundai; Tensho.
4th Degree Black belt: Yondan- Over 28 only, if trained at least 15 years.
Kata: Supaempei; Nipaipo.
5th Degree Black belt: Godan Over 35 only, if trained at least 20 years.
Kata: Chatanyara Kunsanku, Unsu, Chinto.
6th Degree Black belt: Rokudan-Over 45 only, if trained at least 25 years.
Kata: perfection of bunkai to all kata.
The above will take into consideration not only skills but contribution to the association, continued participation in training sessions/tournament/teaching/dojo/ other administrative things.
